On Thursday I join the rest of the YKC Agility Team GB in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland for the Junior European Open 2019. Many of the handlers, their dogs and parents have started the drive out and will no doubt be enjoying a bit of down-time before the championships start on Friday.
For us the championships start on Thursday with our official check-in, then the team’s welcome meal in the evening, before the Opening Ceremony on Friday morning; then the competitions get underway.
Once again we’ve been lucky enough to have the support from the Kennel Club that enables us to to send teams to these top international championships. Additional sponsorship this year from Natural Instinct and Nottingham Trent University helps provide support from the coaching team and with the team’s preparation.
This will be the fourth time I’ve taken a YKC team to the JEO, each one is just as thrilling as the first. Being in a different country each year is exciting and adds a fresh feel and atmosphere of the competition. I have two new members of the coaching team assisting me this year and seven of the 20 handlers will be experiencing the JEO for the first time too.
You can keep up to date with the competition at the Agility Team GB Supporters Facebook Group, the JEO website and the Kennel Club FB group too. I’m sure you’ll join me wishing everyone all the best and to enjoy this top international competition for young handlers.
